The above is a logo designed by Bob Sparks. It is a Logo for a photograpbhy exhibition. The design is striking as the graphic part of the logo is a diamond shape that conjures up the familiarity of a baseball diamond but uses style and line art to create a frame which relates to the theme of photgraphy. The logo is also a visual play on word eye-dentity in the cenrter. The designer created several variations of the design which is mostly in black and white or gray scale. The original version shows the eye as one would normally expect. And the revised version with the iris of the eye represented as a camera iris and lense for the pupil.

The text part of the logo is kind of a puzzle- with the visual _eye and -dentitiy in a simple sans serif font. The thin weight of the letters adds to the visual by suggesting eye lashes. The font makes the text hard to see from far away but close up it works.

Negative Space - post 5

Grenoble logo by Fabian Laborie - Montreal, Quebec, Canada

While researching logo designs for business cards and envelopes I came upon this design for Grenoble. It relates to the Osaka Tourism brand because it is representing a European city from the Middle Ages. The logo consists of a lion eating a snake in the foreground and a shield in the background. When combined the lion is created using negative space. It is a very fantastical image which says something about the folklore of the city and conveys that it is a medieval city.

The colors are two shades of blue with white as negative space. It changes the feel of the logo depending on which bits are blue or white.  the type is a very clean sans serif font that is inviting and simple.

The designer is Fabien Laborie of Quebec, Canada
